Raising awareness of domestic violence one town at a time

We proudly made a donation to the Esperance Crisis Accommodation Service last year to support them during the Christmas period.

Some of the funds were used to launch the Purple Bench Project – a global initiative to raise awareness of domestic violence in communities around the world.

There are now five benches installed throughout Esperance, each serving as a place of reflection and as a reminder of the prevalence and risks of family and domestic violence.

The benches were officially launched in Esperance on Monday 25 November, which was the International Day of the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and the first day of the #16DaysinWA campaign, which aims to eliminate the incidence of gender-based violence in our state.

Boyd Coleman, PMI Operations Manager attended the event, joining 30 other guests from various organisations, the local Shire and members of the community.

In his speech, Boyd said: “I am proud to be a member of Mineral Resources, which takes an admirable approach to charitable organisations, with those less fortunate and those in need always at the forefront of our minds.”

ECAS Coordinator Christine Smith thanked Mineral Resources for their donation.

“Your donation has allowed the project to become a highly visible, practical reminder to our community and the Shire of Esperance, thank you for your enthusiastic support of the project,” she said.

“I am pleased to bring this initiative to the Esperance Community and do hope it will help anyone out there who may need support. I urge anyone who does need help to reach out as there are many support services available.”
